About Eagan, Minnesota:
The city of Eagan, Dakota County, is located on the southern side of St. Paul, near the southern-bank of the Minnesota River. Both Eagan and its surrounding communities make up the southern section of the Minneapolis – St. Paul metropolitan area. The 2010 United States Census found its residential population to be more than 64,000, making it Minnesota’s 11th largest city.
A historically rural farming area, Eagan has evolved over the years. Its largest expansion occurred after the relocation and growth of Highway 77, and the building of a six-lane bridge stretching over the Minnesota River in 1980. Another aspect that has led to its growth is the completion of the last phase of I-35E. Eagan’s northern border is situation along I-494.
Eagan’s prominence in the region increased dramatically when Thomson West, now known as Thomson Reuters, and Northwest Airlines based their headquarters in the city. Other well-known companies that have offices in the city include Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Minnesota, Ecolab, Lockheed Martin, Midwest Coca-Cola Bottling, Prime Therapeutics, United Parcel Service, and Wells Fargo Mortgage.
In relation to sports, the Minnesota Vikings, a member of the National Football League (NFL), is constructing a training center in Eagan, set to be unveiled in 2018. It will consist of six practice fields and a stadium.
